PROJECT LONG TERM GOAL

MEDIUM TERM OUTCOMES:

  1. Strengthened agency and voice of survivors who have become advocates and activists and push for greater reforms and accountability, and contribute to cases reported and addressed by service providers in communities
  2. Improved capacities of women groups in organizing and mobilizing to address issues and incidences of VAWG in six states in Southwest, Nigeria.
  3. A community of progressive leaders, inclusive of key influencers comprising women, and community leaders with improved knowledge/understanding a challenges gender discrimination and violence against women and girls.
  4. A reduction in gender-based violence in communities as a result of normative and behaviour change initiatives and structured community mechanism communal sanctions regarding GBV/VAWG. TIMELINE: 12th January 2023 to 30th September, 2023

SUCCESS STORIES

    1. Built collaboration, acceptance and buy-in of FORD Foundation/WARDC project in Makoko, Ilaje-Otumara and Oko-Oba Communities by Female Traditional Chiefs, Female Market Leaders and other Stakeholders through community dialogues, market meeting, village square meetings, rallies etc.
    2. Strengthened the Community Response Teams (CRT) at Makoko, Ilaje Otumara and Oko-Oba Communities to curb Gender Based Violence through effective reportage.
    3. Strengthened 5 Agencies namely FEDERATION OF MUSLIM WOMEN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (FOMWAN); CATHOLIC YOUTH ORGANISATION OF NIGERIA (CYON); YOUTH WING CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (YOWICAN) AND CATERING ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA as advocates and voice within and outside their agencies.
    4. Increase awareness and education on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law 2015.
    5. Strengthened and improved the capacity of women groups, namely Iyalajes and Iyalojas as advocates and voice within and outside their groups. Mobilised them to address violence against women and girls cases.
    6. Distribution of about 1,700 copies of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law 2015 in the 3 Communities.
    7. Strengthened with knowledge, the leaders and key stakeholders of Makoko, Ilaje-Otumara and Oko-Oba communities, to understand issues pertaining to VAWG and gender discrimination.
    8. Mobilised 2 Young Women GBV survivors to participate in catering and fashion skills. They were empowered to set up their businesses through WARDC.
    9. Through experienced gained from WARDC activities, a CRT member was motivated to start-up a community based organisation within Makoko Community to cater for Older Persons.
    10. Increased level of self-dependence and responsibility by Women thereby reducing GBV
    11. Behaviorial changes, especially by male gender knowing that there are communal sanctions and mechanism in place.
    12. Successful dialogues, meetings and collaboration which led to engagement and partnership with the Iyalode-In-Council meeting in Lagos State.
    13. Produced 3 banners as requested by Makoko Community and mounted at strategic locations in the community
